This is a scene I’ve visited and photographed several times. There is an outfall at Seasalter which is nearly covered at high tide. Recently, I went back there on a sunny day at high tide, just to get a very simple, minimal composition. I used the Lee Big Stopper to lengthen the exposure to a minute, to get the sea blurred and set off the hard structure against the soft background. The simple composition and colour contrast between the red and blue appeals to me a lot. Although I love working in black and white - especially for minimalism - the colour is an essential part of this picture, and it simply does not work as well in monochrome.
